Overview

This Course is a stand-alone qualification which will enhance your theoretical and practical knowledge within the Carpentry & Joinery discipline. It is suited to anyone who has completed the Professional Development Award at SCQF Level 6 in Carpentry and Joinery or can show other appropriate qualifications/experience.

The Advanced Craft in Carpentry and Joinery is normally the third year of a four-year programme offered here as a stand-alone certificate. It’s ideal if you’re currently undertaking or have completed a modern apprenticeship in Carpentry & Joinery.  

You will spend 1 day per week over 36 weeks at College to learn Advanced Craft Carpentry and Joinery skills which will enhance your understanding of your discipline.

Entry

This award is normally undertaken within the third year of a four year modern apprenticeship programme after completion of the first two years content of the Carpentry & Joinery SVQ 3/PDA 6.

Applications will be considered from people showing proof of relevant qualifications and industrial experience.

 

 

Learn

The course covers 8 Higher National units in the Advanced Craft PDA Level 7 Carpentry and Joinery discipline. Your knowledge and experience will be enhanced in a wide variety of construction, woodworking principles and techniques. The units you will cover are as follows:

  • Complex Pitched Roof Construction
  • Carpentry and Joinery: Complex Timber Stair Construction
  • Site Measuring and Setting Out Procedures
  • Construction Technical Communication Skills
