Our Foundation Apprenticeship programmes will give pupils in S5 and S6 exposure to the world of work while they work towards an industry-recognised qualification – all while allowing them to continue their school education.
Skills Development Scotland developed Foundation Apprenticeships to help Scotland’s young people gain valuable work experience, have the opportunity for work-based learning while still attending school.

The Foundation Apprenticeship (FA) in Engineering aims to give school pupils the opportunity to develop the theoretical knowledge, skills and work experience needed to enter into a career in engineering, manufacturing or related industries.
The Foundation Apprenticeship (FA) in Hardware and System Support is a two-year programme that provides S5 and S6 pupils the qualifications, skills and experience necessary for working towards a career in the IT Technical Support, Systems Administration or Network Administration.
The Foundation Apprenticeship (FA) in Software Development is a two-year programme that provides S5 and S6 pupils the qualifications, skills and experience necessary for working towards a career in Software Development and related areas.
