Overview

This fascinating course explores the social and personal aspects of crime and criminals.  A range of subjects will provide a variety of explanations for crime and deviance within modern society. You will also have the opportunity to develop core skills and meta skills within high quality settings. N.B this course is subject to an approval process in March & April 23.

Entry

Completion of the personal statement when applying is highly recommended. 

At least 3 relevant qualifications at SCQF level 5 (e.g. National 5, intermediate 2, standard grades at credit).

Relevant qualifications include: Social Science, English, Geography, RMPS, Psychology, Business Management, Mathematics, or a Science subject.

Those with alternative experience and learning may be considered following discussion with the course leader. Such applicants must submit a personal statement, including details of previous work experience.

Learn

The programme will focus on SCQF Levels 5 and 6 and includes additional units in other social sciences disciplines (such as Sociology, Psychology and Philosophy) and core skills. Criminology will cover Forensic Psychology, Crime Scenes, Crime in the Community and the Nature and Extent of Crime. Forensic Science and Dental Charting will be taught within high tech settings during both semesters. An exciting interdisciplinary project will bring all subjects together in a mock criminal analysis scenario.
