HNC Technical Theatre

The Performing Arts department at New College Lanarkshire hosts on average 17 productions a year which allows for practical & production based teaching within the HNC Technical Theatre course. Delivered by highly accomplished, professional theatre practitioners, this hands-on experience combined with a focus on developing students transferable skills such as creativity, problem solving, decision making & communication will prepare you for progression into an HND Technical Theatre qualification or for entry in employment within a vastly growing industry.  The course offers students the opportunity to gain experience in professional, working theatres through placement and workshops.

Course Information

01 Entry

Successful applicants will be asked to attend a short interview.  Although experience in technical theatre or related is preferable, applications are welcome from anyone with a keen interest in all aspects of stage, screen and radio production (more information on application).

02 Learn

Across the many productions you will have the opportunity to work across a capacity of roles:

  • Stage lighting: design, rigging, focusing, operation
  • Sound: design, operation

  • Set design and construction

  • Costume
03 Progress

Progression onto further training: HND level or seek professional work.
