Students from New College Lanarkshire’s Cumbernauld Campus are still looking for more donations to help disadvantaged kids from around the world this Christmas.
NQ Administration and IT students launched their Christmas Shoebox Appeal campaign for Samaritan’s Purse in October, which sends essentials and toys to children living in poverty.
The class are encouraging the staff, students and the local community to donate generously to the cause – donating gifts and essentials for children to open at Christmas.
Items can include toys, school supplies, hygiene items, small items of clothing (e.g. hats, gloves, scarves, socks), accessories and (non-chocolate) sweets with a sell-by date of before March 2018.
These can be donated to any campus reception or Students' Association desk. The NQ Administration and IT class will pack and check all shoeboxes before handing them over to the organisation.
The deadline for handing in donations is Wednesday 29th November.
Your donations will be a welcome addition to the class’s existing fundraising efforts, which includes one student, Aimee Connelly, 26, completing the Great Scottish Run, held in Glasgow in September, to raise money for the appeal – raising £220!
Students also recently held a stall in Tesco - again raising over £200 from their fundraising efforts, which will now go towards the purchase of gifts for more boxes!
Lecturer Beatrice Soutar, said: “The students have been doing a great job getting the public involved and were fantastic ambassadors for the College and for the appeal.
“I’d like to thank all those who have donated so generously this far and look forward to receiving even more donations in the coming weeks.
“The students are really passionate about the cause and we are hoping to help as many children across the world as we possibly can.
“All your donations and efforts are highly appreciated!”
The Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal has resulted in over 124 million shoeboxes being sent to children since 1990.
Samaritan’s Purse is an international relief and development organisation that works in Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
