NQ Travel and Tourism students had the chance to meet the best in the industry when they attended the Visit Scotland Expo 2017 held in Glasgow’s Scottish Event Campus and boy did they return on a high! Meeting with nearly 300 Scottish tourism businesses, 400 International buyers from 31 countries and seeing the vast range of products and services on offer in the industry, who wouldnt!

The event, which promotes Travel and Tourism businesses from CalMac Ferries to Delta Airlines, National Museums of Scotland to Jurys Inn, gave our students an overview of the varied career options the industry can offer.

Student Harry Lovatt said:

“It was great to see so many Scottish businesses side by side with the likes of Turkish and Delta Airlines. Exhibitors were more than happy to talk to us, explain their services and give us insight into what it’s like to work in the industry. Delta even told us about their new routes coming soon to Glasgow!

“The visit will really help me with my upcoming Scottish Case Studies assessment, and has taught me that there is more to Scotland’s tourism than Irn-Bru and Old Firm games!”

Class-mate Barbara McMinigal, who recently secured a job at Urquhart Travel after coming out of retirement to study on the course, said:

“This was my first time visiting an exhibition for Travel and Tourism and I enjoyed the experience immensely. Thanks to our lecturer Angie and Visit Scotland for allowing us to attend, it’s been really insightful.”

Lecturer and trip organiser Angie McCallum said:

“It is really important that students are able to attend such events. It adds such value to the course and helps them become successful, confident learners. People often underestimate the value of tourism to this country and how well received our country is by foreign visitors, so it was great to show this to the students first-hand.”
