The Modern Apprenticeship (MA) in IT & Telecoms comprises two parts - a work-based qualification and a college-based programme designed to suit the needs of the individuals business.
The work-based qualification is carried out in the workplace with candidates providing evidence to prove their competence in their work related tasks. The evidence of this is gathered and assessed using an online portfolio system.
The additional programme uses both industry and educational qualifications to create a bespoke course which meets both the business needs of the employer and provides a clear progression route for the apprentice.
The Apprentices work towards the Diploma for Information Technology and Telecommunications Professionals (SCQF Level 6). As well as that, they work towards an additional qualification to suit the needs of the apprentice and the business in which they work. This is usually a day-release programme at College.
For the work based qualification, the apprentices must complete personal effectiveness and health and safety units. The remainder of the units chosen are geared towards the role of the apprentice in the work place and cover areas such as Interpersonal and Written Communication, Customer Care, IT and Telecom Systems, Managing Software, Programming, Fault Diagnosis, Technical Advice and Guidance, Data Modelling, Systems Architecture, Computer Applications, Databases, Website Software, Social Media in Business, etc.
Upon completion of the Modern Apprenticeship, the goal is career progression with the existing organisation. Roles the MA will be qualified for include:-
