Overview


This Music Business introduction is a course designed to equip students with an understanding of various aspects within the music industry. Subjects include Promoting a Business, Marketing and Event Organisation. 

Industry experts will be invited as guest lecturers for one of the sessions giving further practical insight and knowledge into the music industry.

Course Information


Three National 4 Awards, Skills for Work National 4 or equivalent. 

Applicants must demonstrate an interest in working in the music industry as part of their application and participate in a formal interview. Experience of using computing software and possessing good communication skills are essential.

Prior relevant industry experience will also be considered.

This exciting and original course will introduce you to all aspects of the music industry. Throughout the course, you'll be using industry standard software and hardware working on many practical projects.

  • You'll develop an understanding of various aspects of the creative industries and the music industry
  • Radio interviewing techniques, how to promote a business and an introduction to marketing 
  • Arranging and managing events in the music industry

During the course you will develop an understanding of the professional skills, work habits, and attitudes expected by the industry. This will include client interaction, working in teams, delivering high quality work to tight deadlines and decision making. You’ll also be encouraged to work with students from other disciplines including Music, Sound Production and Film & TV collaborating on projects that will introduce you to working in real-life situations.
