The HNC Technical Theatre course at New College Lanarkshire will provide you with hands-on experience in the disciplines of technical theatre through practical and production based teaching. Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to work in a variety of technical roles across our three college theatre spaces as well as external professional performance venues. The college produces an average of 17 public productions per academic year, allowing students to gain experience of a variety of production types, from musical theatre, acting, dance and a professional pantomime. Delivered by highly accomplished, professional theatre practitioners, this course is an excellent opportunity to gain or improve your technical skills in preparation for moving into work or to further training. The course also offers students the opportunity to gain experience in professional, working theatres through placement and workshops.
Successful applicants will be asked to attend a short interview. Although experience in technical theatre or related disciplines is preferable, applications are welcome from anyone with a keen interest in all aspects of stage, screen and radio production (more details are available once interviews/auditions are arranged). Higher English and/or Higher Drama are recommended but not essential.
While working on the many college productions you will have the opportunity to gain and improve your skills across multiple technical disciplines in a variety of performance spaces and venues, including lighting: design, rigging, focussing and operation, sound set up, design and operation, set design construction and stage management roles.
Progression on to further training: HND level or seek professional work.
