Overview


The HND Musical Theatre course is highly practical, with industry based expert teaching staff providing you with the necessary training to develop the skills and versatility needed to meet the vocal, physical and artistic demands placed upon a modern working performer. Building on from the skills gained from HNC MT, the HND Musical Theatre course is designed to give students the necessary training to help them gain entry to further study or the industry as a multi-faceted, professional performer.

Course Information


Entry is by audition only, where you will be asked to demonstrate your singing, acting and dance skills (more details on application) in front of an audition panel. There will also be a short interview. The audition process enables staff to judge a realistic assessment of your suitability for the qualification and awareness of the requirements for the course. An HNC in Musical Theatre is essential to access this programme.

Higher English and/or Higher Drama/Higher Music are recommended but not essential. Previous performance experience, out with college requirements, is preferred but applications are welcome from candidates of all levels.

The HND Musical Theatre course focuses primarily on the practical and theoretical skills of a modern performer through classes and workshops, which include acting, voice, singing, production, jazz, ballet, contemporary, professional development. Students will also have the opportunity to take part in industry-led workshops and classes, as part of their training, to gain knowledge and experience of current trends in the profession. All the lecturers on the acting courses are highly trained, with years of industry experience. Students have the opportunity to perform in two musical theatre productions throughout the academic year. In the past, students have performed in various professional venues.

On successful completion of this course candidates will have gained the necessary skills to apply for the BA Musical Theatre course at New College Lanarkshire, validated by Queen Margaret University, or begin seeking professional work
