The NC Technical Theatre course at New College Lanarkshire is designed to develop your practical technical theatre skills through specifically tailored classes providing a realistic experience in theatre production. It places an emphasis on developing communication, problem solving, decision making and other transferable skills through hands-on experience working on the college’s 17 public productions throughout the academic year. Delivered by highly accomplished, professional theatre practitioners, this course is an excellent introduction to the technical theatre industry and is designed as the first step in your training.
Successful applicants will be asked to attend a short interview. Although some experience in technical theatre or related disciplines is preferable, applications are welcome from anyone with a keen interest in all aspects of stage, screen and radio production (more information on application). An English qualification is recommended but not essential.
While working on productions across our three theatre spaces and external venues, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of technical disciplines, which include lighting, sound, theatre workshop skills and stage management. This course places an emphasis on developing your transferable skills, which will give you a head start with your training in technical theatre.
