Course overview
This course provides an excellent and exciting introduction to Beauty Care. The course focuses mainly on developing beauty practical skills in a “real life” environment with some theory elements to provide underlying knowledge. Customer Care, Client Consultation and Health and Safety in the Salon are also included within the subjects.

This National 4 course provides a broad introduction to hairdressing. The focus is on experiencing the salon environment to learn about the different roles and responsibilities in hairdressing and to begin to develop vocational skills and knowledge.

You must demonstrate a keen interest in hairdressing and have a level of general education required for SCQF level 4
Progression
Introduction to NQ Hairdressing at New College Lanarkshire or employment in a hairdressing salon as a trainee hairdresser.

Progression
Progression to an NQ/NC Programme eventually leading on to an HNC/HND in subjects such as Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing, Fashion Make-up.
Course overview
This course is an ideal starting point if you are wishing to pursue a career in make-up artistry. A make-up artist must be skilled in using a variety of make-up products, tools and equipment to apply make-up designs therefore this course provides you with the opportunity to develop foundation knowledge and skills in make-up application for a number of different purposes.
To become a good make-up artist you must not only be skilled in the art of applying make-up, you must also be skilled in basic hairdressing techniques. It is also important to excel in the art of communication as a career in make-up artistry will mean working closely with many individuals, such as models, photographers, hairstylists, actors, dancers, musicians, directors, production teams and camera crews. You may also be required to communicate clearly with employers and/or clients to ensure there is a clear understanding of the clients’ requirements through developing good consultation skills, asking the right questions and offering feedback and suggestions. This course will enable you to develop a range of effective communication skills.

Progression
Candidates who successfully achieve this course can apply for progression onto the full-time Introduction to Make up Artistry (SCQF Level 5), NCGA Hairdressing (SCQF Level 5) or NCGA Beauty care and Make up (SCQF Level 5)
