This is a two year vocational courses aimed at students with additional support needs with an interest in working within the hospitality sector. In partnership with the Coalyard Tearoom in Larkhall and South Lanarkshire's Work It Out programme, students will undertake vocational and employability qualifications, underpinned with practical training within a tearoom and laundry setting. Students spend two days in College competing classroom based activities, which support the vocational skills acquired while out on work placement for the remainder of the week. At the Coalyard, students will rotate around the different sections, including the kitchen, tearoom and launderette.
In year 2 of the course, students will get the opportunity to extend their skills by completing placements in associated satellite cafes across the South Lanarkshire area.
Applicants must live in South Lanarkshire and have a willingness to complete a work experience placement withing an hospitality setting. Applicants should be working at SCQF level 3/4 and should be working towards or able to independently travel using private or public transport.
Students will acquire a range of practical skills within a working tearoom and launderette environment, leading to vocational qualifications within the hospitality sector. Successful students will leave the course with a portfolio of qualifications which will prepare them for employment within the hospitality industry. In addition, students will undertake the study of several embedded core skills qualifications that are transferable to many other work place environments.
