Patrycja Wisniewski was recently recognised as a Rising Star in her industry in the BIM Awards.

Patrycja, who lives in Wishaw, recently graduated in HND Computer Aided Architectural Design and Technology (CAADT) from our Motherwell Campus, where she studied for three consecutive years.

She was presented the Highly Commended award in the ‘BIM Rising Star’ category at the awards, which honours innovators and pioneers of digital construction from across the UK.

She said: “Being shortlisted for the BIM Rising Star award feels really good. In fact, I already feel like a winner with everything that I have achieved so far.”

Patrycja made the decision to return to education following the birth of her daughter – and she is now employed as a Trainee Civil and Structural Technician with BakerHicks.

Patrycja added: “I decided that it was time to do something with my life to secure a future for my daughter and myself.

“I have been interested in building design for many years, but was never good at hand sketching, and that’s when I found out about CAADT.

“After a quick research, I found that New College Lanarkshire is one of the leading colleges in Architectural Technology in Scotland, so I decided to apply.

“College gave me a good understanding of what will be expected when working in industry and taught me how to use software, so it definitely helped with securing my current job.

“I received a lot of support from lecturers during those three years – they are very helpful and understanding and treat students like equals.”

Patrycja’s success follows in the success of former student Sophie Orr, who won the BIM Rising Star award in 2019. Both Sophie and Patrycja competed at WorldSkills UK Live in Birmingham, with Sophie bringing home a gold medal in the Building Information Modelling competition, while Patrycja achieved highly commended.

The awards were announced at a glittering awards ceremony at the Boiler Shop in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Part of the two-day BIM Show Live 2020 conference, which features keynote talks and seminars on the technological advances in digital construction.

New College Lanarkshire was also awarded the Best BIM Training Programme for its course delivery at the awards. The Architectural Technology course is now open for applications. For more information, visit: https://www.nclanarkshire.ac.uk/courses/cad
