New College Lanarkshire’s engineering and automotive faculty has received a prestigious industry award. The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) announced New College Lanarkshire’s Motherwell campus as the Approved Centre of the Year at the Outstanding Achievers Awards 2015.
As the leading awarding body for the retail motor industry, the IMI Outstanding Achievers Awards recognise the achievements of students and staff from the IMI approved centre network.
The College’s automotive section has around 1,000 students and 44 staff, making it the largest further education provider of automotive education and training in Scotland, and one of the largest and most successful automotive providers in the UK.
It includes a state-of-the-art heavy vehicle training centre, which is unique to Scotland, allowing New College Lanarkshire to provide training and assessment for all of the main automotive technical disciplines.
The College competed with the BMW Academy, Mercedes-Benz and South Devon College for the coveted top spot.
Ian McLintock, Curriculum and Quality Leader of Engineering and Automotive, said: “As previous winners, we are delighted once again to achieve this highly acclaimed automotive industry award. New College Lanarkshire continues to be sector leading throughout the UK and we were delighted to accept the award at Silverstone.”
The Approved Centre of the Year award is the premier award for all IMI Awards approved centres, demonstrating to staff, students, employers and local businesses that the organisation is committed to the highest standards of training excellence.
Speaking at the event IMI CEO Steve Nash, said, “Everyone here is already being recognised for their achievements and you can be certain that, if you are nominated here today, you already have the best possible start to your career. If you are here as a professional or representing an organisation, than you have already been recognised as a leading light in the sector.
“Today is about celebration and accomplishment. What you have done to come this far should be reason enough to be proud, as much as the actual receiving of an award.”
The annual awards ceremony took place on Thursday 22 October at Silverstone, Northamptonshire. Prince Michael of Kent was also in attendance to celebrate the talent in the industry.
