Teaching staff from New College Lanarkshire have captured a clutch of prizes in a national competition for professional photographers.

Three Photography lecturers won four prizes at the BIPP Scotland Regional Professional Awards 2019, which was held recently in Edinburgh.

Elizabeth Morton won a gold award in the Open category for her image ‘Beautiful Imperfection’.

Also in the Open category, Peter Adams picked up a silver for his image ‘More Than Movement’.

Peter also picked up a bronze award for his photograph entitled ‘Swim Little Fish Swim’.

In addition, Lewis Napier, who is the College’s Curriculum & Quality Leader for Animation, Photography, Art & Design, won a silver award for his image ‘Red Skeleton’ in the Self-Commissioned Commercial category.

The awards took place on July 14th at the Meow Photography Studios in Edinburgh.

The industry event featured more than 50 awards given out across five categories, including Commercial, Fine Art, Portrait and Wedding.

The winning entries will now go forward to the UK-wide finals in November.

Lewis Napier, who was named BIPP’s Scottish Professional Photographer of the Year 2018, said: “There are now six Photography team members lecturing at New College Lanarkshire and every one of them has won at the British Institute of Professional Photography Awards.

“This helps to inspire our students, who know the calibre of lecturers who they are working with – and they appreciate that our teaching staff are leading by example.

“The Photography team are always actively taking images and their enthusiasm for what they do is infectious.”

Earlier this year, students of Photography picked up six accolades from the BIPP Scottish Region Student Awards, which were also held in the Meow Photography Studios in Edinburgh.

And in March, students picked up 14 Awards of Excellence and the Student Photographer of the Year prize at the Master Photographers Association (MPA) Scottish Region Awards 2019.

Matthew Smith, the College’s Head of Faculty for Creative Industries, said: “The BIPP Awards celebrate the best professional photographers in the industry in UK.

“It is a fantastic accolade to all in the Photography curriculum area to achieve such success.”
