Health and Social Care students have been given a head start in choosing their future career options after an industry recruitment event held at New College Lanarkshire.
Organised in partnership with NHS Lanarkshire, North Lanarkshire Council and the University of the West of Scotland, over 200 students from New College Lanarkshire’s Health & Social Care, Early Learning & Childcare and Dental Nursing curriculum areas attended the event held at the College’s Coatbridge Campus.
The event highlighted the various opportunities available to students in Lanarkshire through collaborative working between organisations – aiming to recruit a highly skilled care workforce and address the needs of the area.
It introduced students to a newly developed recruitment portal, which hosts all relevant care industry jobs in Lanarkshire: http://www.carecareersnl.co.uk/
The event was opened with presentations from Head of Faculty for Care and Science at the College, Clare Flynn, Divisional Nurse Director for NHS Lanarkshire, Anne Armstrong, and Head of Corporate Communications and Marketing at North Lanarkshire Council, Stephen Penman.
Students then had the opportunity to speak with representatives from local organisations including NHS Lanarkshire, Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire, University of the West of Scotland, Hospital at Home, North Lanarkshire Council, HRM Home Care Services, Holmes Care Group, HC One, Thistle Health Care and Associate Homes.
They then took part in dedicated workshops covering nursing procedures, application preparation, social work and allied health professions.
Clare Flynn, Head of Faculty for Care and Science, said: “This event is a great example of effective partnerships. NHS Lanarkshire, North Lanarkshire Council and New College Lanarkshire have joint priorities and goals to support the workforce of Lanarkshire and we came together to achieve this.
“My job is to make sure all the Care students of New College Lanarkshire know what careers are available to them and to give them every opportunity to achieve their career goals.
“We were delighted to host this event.”
