Politics students from NCL were recently given a unique insight into the life of a Government Minister.
Over 40 students had the opportunity to meet Jamie Hepburn MSP, Minister for Business, Fair Work and Skills to hear about his work both as a Minister and as a Member of Scottish Parliament for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth.
Students took the opportunity to expand their existing knowledge of Scottish politics through a question and answer session, which covered a range of topics including mental health provision, the benefits system, the future of Scotland after Brexit, career paths for young people and zero hour contracts.
Politics Lecturer Richard Tullett said: “Inviting guest speakers to the College really enhances the learning experience for our students who are able to ask questions of someone who is working on the frontline of Scottish politics.
“We were delighted to welcome Jamie Hepburn to the College and the students really enjoyed the political discussion.
“The way in which he was able to bring his experience of working as both an MSP and a Minister provided the students with a unique insight.
“We look forward to being able to welcome more guest speakers in the future.”
Applications are now open for NCL’s range of Social Science courses which develop knowledge in topics including politics, psychology, sociology and history. Find out more here: https://www.nclanarkshire.ac.uk/courses/social-sciences
