Cumbernauld Campus student Conor Purvis dreams of seeing his name scrolling in the credits of a film – and he’s taken the first step on the path to a career in the film industry by studying HNC Television.
The 19-year-old, who also lives in Cumbernauld, enjoys the proximity of the campus as well as the practical and theoretical skills that he’s learning.
He said: “The course is great and the people are even better. The lecturers are great and the students all share the same passion for film.
“I've enjoyed all of the subjects within the course so far, but I'd have to say filming the ‘noir’ project was my favourite as I got to work with everyone and it defined our skills.
“The script-writing class is great as well; doing table reads and creating a narrative. It's one of the best times I've had in an educational establishment.
“I enjoy the campus. It’s got that student atmosphere around it that you seen in a lot of college films.”
On completion of his HNC, Conor plans to progress on to studying HND Television, also at Cumbernauld Campus.
He added: “I hope the course will lead me to uni where I can gain the qualifications to hopefully take a leap into the film industry.
“You learn a lot in college, more than you'd ever learn in high school. You learn about people and yourself, it's a great experience.
“I've learned to never over-pack a lift, to write and direct, to work a camera and to generally break out of my shell.”
