Specialist Awarding Organisations for the Service Industries
“It is a pleasure to work in partnership with the International team at New College Lanarkshire. When the team came to me with a proposal to provide their specialist training in Dental Nursing in India, we worked together to find a perfect-fit and bespoke solution. The team are very reliable, capable, enthusiastic and receptive to ideas. They are proactive, positive, accommodating and supportive. Consideration for all the people involved is as important to them as ensuring the success of the project. They make sure that I am always kept abreast of project developments and fully involved in decision making.”
Runa McNamara, International Commercial Director
New College Lanarkshire’s partnerships have positively contributed to the internationalisation agenda that we champion here at the British Council.
In a complex and connected world students need the right skills and awareness to engage with global labour markets and shape the future for themselves and for future generations.
The commitment shown by college leadership to broadening the horizons of students and staff and using international work to enhance curriculum is to be applauded. New College Lanarkshire’s partnerships to date have led to sustainable change at the college and overseas.
We value New College Lanarkshire’s commitment to internationalism and look forward to watching their partnerships go from strength to strength.
Carina Kanbi, Assistant Skills Adviser for Education and Society
All of the work that New College Lanarkshire has undertaken in Europe and more widely is done so with total professionalism and a focus on customer and client needs. Staff involved show a genuine and ethical commitment to supporting customers, clients, partners and stakeholders to achieve their own and shared objectives. One extremely pleasing aspect to this is that New College Lanarkshire never over commits and under delivers: it only undertakes activity for which it has the competence and capacity to deliver on time and to target. This is underpinned by a planned and focused approach to external activity which ensures that European and wider international activities are relevant to and contribute to the college’s strategic ambitions.
New College Lanarkshire champions effective cooperation and worthwhile collaboration in our own network and it has, also, made valuable contributions to collective activities with partner networks in Finland, Netherlands, Northern Ireland and Slovenia. The college’s work in China has been a useful exemplar for Scottish partners and its work on student and staff mobility is highly regarded throughout the United Kingdom.
Dugald Craig, Chief Executive
New College Lanarkshire is well known for its Dental Nursing program and through our partnership we have been developing a program specific to India. The college has a very professional approach and clear direction to make this happen. NCL hosted many delegations from India in this regard and many visits by NCL staff was made to India. At no point the college was in a hurry to start the program in India but made sure that best could be given to the learners once the program starts in India.
What requires to be specially appreciated is the support what we receive from each member of the NCL team. We get replies to our emails almost on the same day making us feel that we are the most important partner for the college.
As we are going to have a new cohort of Dental Nurses, our partnership with NCL is going to revolutionize dentistry in India.

New College Lanarkshire is a fantastic example for others in Scotland of how far ambition and a well-considered strategy can get you in China. Through carefully chosen partners that have been fostered over several years, as well as significant commitment from key personnel at the College, the resulting partnership projects have been able to flourish. It has been the China-Britain Business Council’s pleasure to witness and support this growth, recognised through their shortlisting as a finalist in this year’s China-Scotland Business Awards for Innovation in Education.
The scale of the China opportunity can often be intimidating, especially for smaller organisations to take on, but CBBC regularly stresses the importance of identifying a niche – often in terms of both geographical location and sub-sector. New College Lanarkshire has excelled in doing exactly this and I look forward to continuing our work with them as their business there grows further.
James Brodie, Regional Director, Scotland & Northern Ireland, CBBC

The international team is very enthusiastic and professional. The collaboration between our two colleges kicked off in 2018 and within one year, we have successfully applied and implemented a Sino-Foreign Joint Dental Nursing Programme and the UK-China-BRI Countries Education Partnership Programme, which strengthens curricula, graduate employability and offers mobility opportunities for Heze Medical College. Moreover, the yearly programme of short-term elderly care training programme to HMC has been conducted for one year. We believe the collaboration between our two colleges will expand the internationalization of HMC.
