A series of fundraisers held at the Motherwell Campus went down a treat with staff, students and the public – all while raising £1,000 for MacMillan Cancer Support.
The Hospitality Team organised a week’s worth of events in training restaurant, ML One, including coffee mornings, charity lunches and bake-offs.
The breakfast events kicked each day off in the ML One restaurant, with tea, coffee and hot rolls served. Into lunchtime, a two-course menu was offered to a packed ML One, as guests enjoyed delights including haggis supper, steak pie and mushroom stroganoff.
Staff and students were also encouraged to take part in a charity bake-off, with delicious treats including shortbread, coffee cake and Nutella cheesecake all on show for judging by chef lecturers, Fiona Moffat and Jim Mullen.
Caelan McMillan from NC Hospitality came first place for her custard creams, while Lisa Hendry from HNC Hospitality, also won a prize for her coffee cake. Mary Thomson, Library and Learning Centre Assistant at the College, won first place in the staff category for her empire biscuits.
Lorna Hart, organiser of the fundraisers and lecturer in Service Industries, said:
"We are delighted with the amount raised for MacMillan. It allowed our students to brush up on this hospitality and cookery skills in front of the public ahead of the official opening of ML One on Wednesday 27thSeptember. I’d like to thank all the students who worked hard to make the event a success, all the students and staff who took part in the bake-offs and all those who donated so generously to our events.”
