Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

Candidates must be employed within the automotive industry working in vehicles under 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight. We advise candidates have:

• SCQF level 4 in English
• SCQF level 4 in Maths
• A science subject.

During the course of the programme apprentices will gain the knowledge and skills required to help them become competent technicians in the workplace.

Topics covered begin with:

• Workplace safety
• Engineering skills and leading on to vehicle inspection and servicing
• Maintenance, repair and diagnosing faults around the engine, chassis and electrical systems.

Alongside the delivery at college our Assessors will also visit your company to observe the practical skills of apprentices in the workplace and work closely with them towards gaining an SVQ work related qualification.

• Level 2 VRQ Technical Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (Light Vehicle)
• Level 3 VRQ Technical Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (Light Vehicle)
• Level 3 S/NVQ Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (Light Vehicle)

• IMI Sector Skills Council Modern Apprenticeships Completion Certificate

Completion of the apprenticeship could lead to progressing towards:

• Diagnostic Technician
• Master Technician
• Workshop Supervisor
• Workshop Manager.
