Our HNC Computing gives you the opportunity to explore a broad range of subjects and technologies before progressing into a specialist area, such as:
- Cyber security
- Data science
- Network infrastructure and cloud computing
- Software development
- Web development
Entry
Entry is at the discretion of the centre. Typical formal entry qualifications include one of the following:
- A minimum of one Higher at grade C or above, preferably in a STEM subject
- A relevant group of National Qualification (NQ) units at SCQF level 6
- A Foundation or Modern Apprenticeship in an IT-related discipline
- Relevant employment, practical experience and enthusiasm for the subject may be considered in place of formal qualifications
- Please note: all applicants must attend a satisfactory interview, and an academic reference may be requested.
Learn
You’ll have the chance to study in a selection of areas from: Artificial Intelligence, Basic Computing Concepts, Cloud Computing, Coding, Cyber Security, Databases, Data Science, Emerging Technologies, Networking, Professional Practice, Software Development, Technical Support, UX and Web Development
You’ll work with current tools, software and industry-standard practices, building practical skills for employment or further study.
This is a flexible qualification designed to keep your options open. On successful completion, you could progress to HND-level study, university, an apprenticeship or employment in the digital sector.
You will also have the opportunity to complete Cisco, Microsoft, AWS or Oracle courses alongside your HNC, and will be encouraged to sit the associated professional vendor exams.
All learners will have the opportunity to train for and enter national IT competitions. We have a strong record of past participants who are highly skilled and have represented the college both nationally and internationally.
