Student Funding

Before starting your undergraduate studies, it's important to plan how to fund your course and living costs. Here are common student questions:

Discretionary and Childcare Funding

The University of the West of Scotland (UWS) offers a range of Discretionary and Childcare Funds to support eligible students who need additional financial support during their studies. These non-repayable bursaries are designed to top up government student support (SAAS and Student Loans), and help students meet essential living costs* and study-related childcare expenses.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Full-Time Undergraduate Students: UK students receiving the maximum student support available to them (e.g., from SAAS) who can demonstrate financial need when considering essential and reasonable expenditure.
  • Part-Time Undergraduate Students: UK students funding their studies through the SAAS Part-time Fee Grant or those with an annual income under £25,000. *Funding for part time students is limited to help meeting the costs of books/course materials, travel, and childcare.
