Overview

Studying HNC Music Business at New College Lanarkshire will provide you with an inspiring experience in both the academic and technical pursuits of music business.

Our immersive and unique course has been designed to give you the opportunity to learn forward-thinking practical and theoretical business skills that are essential to working in such a dynamic and high-paced industry across a range of role such as Promotions, Live Events, Tour Management, Entertainment Marketing, Artist Management, Digital Marketing and E-business. Under the guidance of industry professionals, you will engage in a series of projects and activities focused on working in the music industry including setting up and managing a record label, organising music events and promoting and marketing music products. 

Remember, you don’t have to have a musical instrument or performance background, only a love for music and an appetite to work in the industry.

 

Entry

We are delighted that you are thinking about studying Music Business at New College Lanarkshire.

It’s important when applying for this course, applicants have:

  • 1 Higher pass (or equivalent qualifications including NQ units)

or

  • Relevant experience may also be considered.

Please note all applicants will be required to undertake an interview upon successful completion of an application.

Learn

Students will be taught by leading music professionals and throughout their HNC, participate in engaging cross collaborative projects.

Throughout your HNC, you will cover units such as:

  • Music Industry Marketing
  • Promotions
  • Management and Law
  • Artist Management and Development
  • Events management and organisation

 

The individual units will not only develop your understanding in Music Business but you’ll also learn essential accounting, administration, computer and social media skills where you will sharpen your organisational skills whilst also learning how to work well under pressure and adapt to changing situations.

As you progress through the course you will build on your understanding of the professional skills, work habits, and expectations of professions in the industry. This will include client interaction, working in teams, delivering high quality work to tight deadlines and decision making.

Throughout the course, whether studying online or through our blended learning model, you will be encouraged to work with students from other disciplines including Music, Sound Production and Film & TV collaborating on projects that will introduce you to working in real-life situations.
