Stay mentoring

New College Lanarkshire are in partnership with Action for Children who offer 1:1 support through the STAY Mentoring Programme. This service aims to help care experienced and other vulnerable students who are at risk of not sustaining their college place due to external barriers or difficulties.

The Action For Children STAY Mentor is able to provide support in a variety of areas such as assisting with barriers to engagement, budgeting support, advice with time management and support with mental health. Additionally, we can offer help to students with ongoing external issues like housing, employment, homelessness, family disputes and liaising with other professionals.

We work with young people from ages 16-24 or 16-29 if care experienced and this support is available to students across each of the New College Lanarkshire campuses.

We want our young people to succeed at NCL and one way to do this is to ensure that students feel supported and encouraged to engage with their learning despite their circumstances. Young people who are at a risk of dropping out of college can receive support in order to give them the best possible chance of re-engaging with their course or alternatively, progression to a positive destination by way of employment or further study.
