Please note: You will be required to attend an interview and provide a portfolio of work. For your portfolio, you will need approximately 10-12 images of the standard required to enhance your application. A variety of images would be expected, including portraiture, still life and landscape, etc.

This course requires you to have appropriate camera equipment which can be discussed at interview. Studio equipment will be available for you to use on campus.

The emphasis of this course is on discovering various photography styles and learning what you love about photography. This will be done through project based work which involves research of other photographers and ends with your own photographic interpretation showing the skills that you have gained. During this course there may be opportunities to work on live projects with real clients.

Large parts of this course will involve you working independently to complete project work and showing that you can manage your workload. Experienced staff will be on hand to support you throughout the year and there will be opportunities to participate in group work, class discussions and critiques.

During your first year with us you will build a portfolio that demonstrates your abilities in a range of photography, inspired by your own interests and favourite photographers. The year will wrap up with an exhibition that will allow the visiting public and potential employers to view your work.

You can expect to gain experience in the following areas:

  • Camera Techniques, Theory & Equipment
  • Portraiture and Still Life Studio Photography
  • Branding and Marketing Photography
  • Landscapes, Street Photography and Natural History
  • Post-Production using industry-standard software including Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Bridge
  • Presentation Skills and how to produce professional quality prints

Units are assessed through practical activities, written and integrated assignments.
