HNC Professional Dance Performance
Overview
Train like a professional
HNC Professional Dance Performance is full-time, serious training for dancers aiming at the industry. The step up from NQ is real: more hours in the studio, higher technical demands and more performing.
You'll build strong, reliable technique across classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap and commercial, develop as a choreographer, and perform in public performance spaces throughout the year.
You'll train with lecturers who've spent years in the profession, and take part in industry-led workshops that keep you current with how the industry works now.
Entry
Who can apply
- You'll need previous dance experience to join this course. Higher English, Higher Dance or an NC or NQ Dance are useful but not essential.
- If you've completed our NQ Dance course, this is your natural next step.
Your audition
Entry is by audition. You'll take part in classes across a range of styles so we can see your technique, how quickly you pick up choreography and whether you're ready for the physical demands of full-time training.
On the day
Wear dance clothes you can move freely in and bring your dance shoes.
Learn
This is practical training. You'll be in the studio most of the time, building technique across:

Production and performance
You'll perform in public performance spaces throughout the year, learning what it takes to prepare a piece and deliver it to an audience.
Looking after your body
Anatomy, injury prevention and body conditioning run alongside your technical classes, so you build strength and understand how to train safely and sustain a career.
Industry workshops
You'll take part in industry-led workshops and classes with people working in the profession now, keeping you current with what the industry expects.
Every lecturer on our dance courses is highly trained with years of industry experience, so you're learning from people who've done the job.
