HND Professional Dance Performance
Overview
Year two. Now you're training for the job.
HND Professional Dance Performance builds on your HNC and turns training into preparation for work. You'll push your technique further across classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap and commercial, and perform regularly in public performance spaces.
This is also the year you get yourself industry-ready: auditions, your portfolio, and the professional habits that keep dancers working.
You'll train with lecturers who've spent years in the profession, and complete a qualification recognised at degree entry level.
Entry
Who can apply
You'll need to have completed HNC Professional Dance Performance. Higher English and Higher Dance are useful but not essential.
Your audition
Entry is by audition. You'll take part in a dance workshop covering a range of techniques, followed by a short interview. We're looking at your technique, how you pick up choreography and whether you're ready for the demands of a second year of full-time training.
On the day
Wear dance clothes you can move freely in and bring your dance shoes.Â
Learn
You'll be in the studio most of the time, taking your technique further across:
Classical ballet · Contemporary · Jazz · Tap · Commercial
Production and performance
You'll perform in public performance spaces throughout the year, building the stamina and reliability that professional work demands.
Audition and portfolio
This is the year you prepare to go out and get work. You'll build your audition technique, put together your portfolio and learn how dancers find and win jobs.
Contextual studies
You'll develop your understanding of dance in context, the ideas, history and practitioners behind the work you're performing.
Body conditioning
Conditioning runs alongside your technical classes, building the strength to train hard and sustain a career.
Industry workshops
You'll work with people currently in the profession, keeping you current with what the industry expects now.
