Your final year. Your own direction.

Honours is where you stop following briefs and start setting your own. You'll develop your creative practice as a producer, take on an independent research or production project in an area you choose, and graduate with work that reflects the professional you're becoming.

You'll also develop a sharper understanding of how the industry works, from the cultural meaning of music and production to the structures and revenue streams behind it.

Whether you see your future in production, composition, post-production, teaching or research, this year is built around where you want to go next.

Studied elsewhere? If you hold an ordinary degree in sound production or a closely related subject from another institution, we'd be happy to hear from you.

Not there yet? Our pathway runs from NC and HNC through to HND, BA and Honours, so you can start at the level that suits you.

Learn

How you'll learn
The year is built around three strands that shape professional practice today.

Advanced production
You'll work with the tools, technologies and creative processes behind modern music production, exploring how sound is crafted, captured and manipulated across genres and settings, and pushing your own practice further.

Electroacoustic production
You'll move beyond conventional production into experimental and spatial composition, working with sound as a creative material in its own right.

Music industries and cultural research
You'll examine how the industry really operates, from business structures and revenue to the cultural forces shaping what gets made and heard. These are the research skills behind your Honours project, and the commercial awareness behind a sustainable career.

Learn from people doing the job
You'll work with our own lecturers and visiting professionals who are active in sound and music production, with opportunities to build connections across the industry. In freelance work, those connections often matter as much as the credits.
