Yesterday the HNC/D Music Performance students were given a tour around Glasgow’s famous OVO Hydro which included a guest lecture/Q and A with the venue’s events team.
As part of their course, the students must run their own live event as well as meet different personnel within the industry, which is why music lecturer Yvonne Tipping set up a tour of Glasgow’s biggest indoor venue.
“What better way for our students to learn about the inner workings of events at the highest level than to speak to those who are active in dealing with it every day”.
HND Music student Liam Farrell added; “The extent of the opportunities we are given on the course on a weekly basis is fantastic. It’s no wonder the course has such a good track record, and we are all delighted to be a part of it.”
It’s been an incredible start to the course for Liam and many other students, as this visit comes just off the back of ex-student and international superstar Lewis Capaldi surprising the students by showing up to give a Q and A last month, ensuring the students they are in “good hands” and going into detail about the “fond memories of being here” and even joking about coming back to undertake the brand new BA Music Performance degree being offered for the first time this year at New College Lanarkshire.
HNC Music student Hannah Graham is one of the many students on cloud 9 about the opening few weeks of the course.
“One minute Lewis Capaldi is in our class talking to us about how we can all make it, the next we are sitting in the Hydro given an incredible insight as to how they run events including everyone from Beyonce to Eminem, how can anyone not being inspired by that?”
Applications will be open soon to all music courses from NQ Rock and Pop, HNC/D Music, and the brand-new BA Music Performance Degree.
