Tui consultant Sophie Cameron gives presentation to Travel and Tourism students

Sophie Cameron is flying high in her dream job after studying at New College Lanarkshire – and she returned to inspire others with her story.

The 22-year-old recently visited the Cumbernauld Campus to speak with current Travel and Tourism students.

She shared insights into how her NQ and HNC qualifications helped her secure her role as a travel consultant with Tui.

Her presentation included details of her sales targets, the interview process in which she was up against 15 candidates, the company’s uniform code and the hectic pace of working in the busy Buchanan Galleries branch.

Teigan Pollock, 19, from Moodiesburn, said: “Sophie’s presentation was great; a real eye-opener. I learned that you can do anything if you put in the work and effort.

“I am amazed to learn that she came from school with only a few grades and through her College course has managed to achieve her dream job.”

Student Harry Lovatt, 17, from Cumbernauld, said: “Sophie gave me a confidence boost when she said that she had applied for a few things before getting this role.

“It made me realise that sometimes you have to learn more before you get that all-important chance.”

Emma Walker, 23, also from Cumbernauld, said: “Listening to Sophie’s journey really inspired me – I really want to work for Tui now.

“The interview process seems daunting, but she has made me more determined to focus and concentrate on my work at College and I, too, can hopefully succeed and be where she is today.”

Ghana-born student Yaw Niemo, 20, added: “Sophie’s presentation has given me the extra motivation to keep going.

“I learned that a travel agent’s work schedule is a lot more hectic than I expected.”

Lecturer Angie McCallum said: “I would like to thank Sophie for her time and effort to help inspire our students.

“It is always a great delight to us to see our students flourish and grow.

“She is living proof that with hard work and commitment you can ‘Turn a like into a living’.”

Applications are now open for NQ Travel and Tourism or HNC Travel and Tourism courses starting in August, which are available at our Cumbernauld and Motherwell campuses.
