Awards and accolades

Five times in the past decade New College has been the best institution in the UK for skills provision, winning the most medals at national ‘skills Olympics’, WorldSkills UK.
  • Our students have gone on to represent the UK at the European and Global World skills tournaments from Shang Hai to Sao Paolo.
  • In the 2023 Herald Education Awards recognised our Music Industries and Performing Arts Department as an example of Outstanding Business Engagement in Colleges, celebrating their close connections with industry and ability to given students from non-traditional backgrounds a route into the arts.
  • Film and TV student Sarah Stables won a Royal Television Society Student Award earlier this year for her film ‘Falsehood’ The awards recognise the best student filmmakers in Scotland and Sarah picked up the prize for best written film.
  • NCL’s Magdalena Krasowska's, was named the best student photographer at Scottish Master Photographers Association Awards in May.
  • The Braw Wee Shop, which is run by students from our Supported Learning department has been celebrated in Parliament, nominated for awards and featured on TV!
  • The generosity of our staff and students means the NCL foundation can provide 4000 free breakfasts every month.
  • Our state of the art Smart Hub has helped hundreds of companies bring robotics into their business.
Education Scotland has created a new quality framework, How Good Is Our College, to allow colleges to scrutinise their work, evaluate what is working well and what could be better.

The framework aims to integrate Education Scotland’s evaluative activities and the Scottish Funding Council’s Regional Outcome Agreements and requires colleges to promote equity, ensuring that all learners have the best chance of a successful outcome.

The New College Lanarkshire Evaluative Report (2017-18) was published on 26 February 2019.

The report said that ‘New College Lanarkshire is recognised for leading in skills development both locally and nationally’ and that a ‘key strength is the strong links built with industry’.

The quality of our services and willingness to improve was rated as ‘good’ and outcomes for leraners was rated ‘satisfactory’.
