Ready for Volunteering
Overview
Ready for Volunteering is a one-year, full-time course designed to prepare learners for volunteering or employment across a range of community and charity settings. This engaging and supportive programme combines classroom learning with real-world volunteering experiences, helping students build confidence, develop life skills, and make a positive impact in their communities.
The course is open to learners progressing from within New College Lanarkshire, as well as individuals with Additional Support Needs who are ready to gain practical experience and grow in a welcoming, inclusive environment.
Learn by Doing
Gain hands-on experience through group volunteering opportunities, where you’ll have the opportunity to gain practical volunteering skills.
Develop Real Skills
Build essential skills in teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and community engagement through both practical experiences and classroom learning.
Gain Recognised Qualifications
Work towards ASDAN units and college-based outcomes that support your personal growth, employability, and pathway into volunteering or work.
Entry
- Be working at SCQF Level 2, or have completed a suitable introductory course at New College Lanarkshire (or equivalent experience).
- Have an interest in volunteering, helping others, or community work.
- Be willing to take part in both classroom learning and community-based activities.
- Be able to work cooperatively and engage positively with others.
- Show a positive attitude and commitment to developing personal and workplace skills.
Learn
Through practical volunteering experiences and guided classroom sessions, you will:
- Learn how to work effectively as part of a team and support others.
- Build strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Develop confidence, independence, and problem-solving abilities.
- Gain an understanding of community organisations and charities.
- Learn about health and safety, equality, and inclusion in volunteering environments.
- Reflect on your strengths, achievements, and future goals.
