Overview

The music industry is one of the UK’s largest creative industries – and the BA Sound Production course opens doors for those with talent, drive and ability to forge varied, lifelong careers within this dynamic and ever-changing industry. Accredited by University of the West of Scotland, this course is offered at our Cumbernauld Campus and continues on from HND Sound Production courses. 

Learners will further develop their skill set utilising the department’s state-of-the-art studio facilities. Students will embark on practical, theoretical and research projects based on the industry, through modules such as: Immersive Sound, Creative Studio Techniques, Sound for Visual Arts, Sound for Games, Collaborative and Specialist Industry Projects and more.

Entry

To be accepted on to the BA Sound Production programme, it is a requirement that students have previously gained an HND in Sound Production (Grade A or B)* or an HND in a related subject.

*Applicants with a Graded Unit C Pass will be considered on an individual basis.

The focus of the programme is to shape and enhance your existing knowledge, build your confidence, develop your technical skills, and prepare you for a successful career in this ever-changing and vibrant industry. You will develop technical production skills in the subjects of music, sound design and audio production and have the opportunity to specialise in areas such as post-production, game audio and other subjects depending on your career choice.

You will have opportunities to work closely with BA Music Performance and BA Music Industries students across our main campuses receiving extensive staff expertise to help you make the most of your experience at New College Lanarkshire. The course is open to all those with an interest in game audio, audio post, music, songwriting, production, experimental sound, etc. The course will encourage you to develop a variety of specialisms. 

Teaching methods include lectures, seminars and tutorial groups allowing for more in-depth discussion of the topics being studied. The course includes a large number of practical learning opportunities allowing you to put the knowledge and experience gained in the classroom into practice in a real-life environment and better prepare you for your future career. In addition to your classes, you will also be required to undertake self-supported learning, making use of online resources and extended use of our modern and advanced recording studio facilities to complete independent research or work on group projects.
