Dougie Imrie: New College Lanarkshire's second sports ambassador

Raith Rovers gaffer Dougie Imrie has been called up to be the second ambassador for New College Lanarkshire's HNC Sports Coaching & Development (Football) programme following a visit to the Motherwell Campus - last month.

Dougie, who has earned praise in recent seasons for his work in the Scottish Championship, spent the day speaking with learners about his route into professional football management. He outlined the key moments in his career, offering insight into leadership, coaching standards and the pressures associated with managing at senior level.

Explaining the programme, Ross Paterson said: "[It] brings leading industry professionals into the college to connect education with the realities of working in sport, providing students with meaningful insight and real-world learning experiences that enhance their overall development."

Students were given the opportunity to question the Rovers boss on topics ranging from team preparation to decision‑making in high‑pressure situations. Staff described the session as “highly valuable”, highlighting the manager’s openness and willingness to share his experiences.

The visit also included a practical coaching session, with Imrie leading activities on the pitch and giving learners the chance to apply classroom concepts in a live environment.

The managers visit followed the announcement of Scottish FIFA International referee Abbie Hendry as the department’s first Sports Coaching and Development Ambassador.

Abbie Hendry is a high-profile Scottish football official who was promoted to Category 1 status in January 2026. She represents Angus & Perthshire Referees Association and has rapidly risen through the Scottish refereeing ranks.
