What will be the vision for the Students’ Association that will take us into 2020?
Now is the time to have your say!
The online polls to elect the next Student President and Vice Presidents representing New College Lanarkshire’s 15,000-plus students are now open.
To vote, simply open your student portal, MyDay, and click on the ‘Student Elections’ icon or banner to cast your votes via Moodle.
The structure of the Students’ Association includes one Student President and three Vice Presidents (one representing Motherwell & Hamilton, one representing Coatbridge, and one representing Cumbernauld, Broadwood and Kirkintilloch campuses).
Voting closes on Friday at 12 noon and the results will be announced on Friday at 4pm.
Ross Brand, Learner Engagement Officer, said: “Voting in the elections gives each student a say in who should represent them and their opinions to the College management and at external events.
“Many students may feel unsure about how they make themselves heard. The Students’ Association can be the way those voices and opinions can make changes.
“More students are recognising the opportunity that roles within the SA can offer and the skills it can help to develop – and want to embrace the challenges the job brings.
“It is an excellent role to bridge the gap between studies and preparation for a career in a chosen field with the varied nature of the job and transferable skills required.”
Elected representatives of the Students’ Association regularly organise events and campaigns, in addition to attending management meetings at the College and feeding information back to students.
This year, there will also be voluntary Supported Learning Vice President roles at each of the three main campuses, who will be responsible for representing their faculty and helping the Students’ Association to organise activities.
