Kays to the Castle

New College Lanarkshire (NCL) lecturer Yvonne Kay, a member of Goodbye Mr Mackenzie, will support Garbage at the band’s final headline gig in Scotland - at Edinburgh Castle this Summer.

Manson previously served as the keyboard player and backing singer in the group, before she found fame as Garbage’s frontwoman.

Kay recently started performing with Goodbye Mr McKenzie, and met Manson last month after the Garbage singer visited NCL to speak to music students about creativity and surviving in the music industry.

Speaking about the visit, the Bellshill born, Kay who has her own rock and roll history with cult Scottish band The Hedron’s said Manson was very encouraging and ‘honest, generous, and genuinely inspiring’.

She went on “Having her speak to the students was an incredible experience. She was honest, generous, and genuinely inspiring. The students gained a real understanding of what it takes to build and sustain a career in music.”

Following the visit, Manson shared her praise for the students on Instagram, writing that she was “extremely struck by your bright, curious minds and taxing questions,” adding “Bravo to you all. Full marks. Gold stars all around.”
