Students who are enrolled on a full-time, Further Education (also known as a ‘non-advanced’) course will have their course funded by the Scottish Funding Council if all of the following conditions apply:
• You have been a resident in the UK or another EU country for the last three years
• You reside in Scotland on the 24th August of the year the course begins
• You haven’t been funded at any level for more than three years within a six-year time frame

Any student who fails to meet the criteria will be required to pay the cost of their tuition fees and should contact the college Finance Office to arrange this.

Students who are enrolled on a full-time, Higher Education (also known as “advanced”) course should apply to the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) for their fees to be paid at www.saas.gov.uk
Students who do not qualify for their fees to be paid by SAAS

If you select Self Financing, you will be required to pay your tuition fees IN FULL before you can complete your online enrolment.
If you select Self Financing Instalments, you will be required to pay the 1st instalment of your tuition fees before you can complete your online enrolment. Please email the Finance department Finance@nclan.ac.uk to set up the remaining of your instalments via a Standing Order Mandate.
If you are thinking of withdrawing from your course, you must do so officially by contacting your Faculty and the Finance Department, as you may be charged a pro rata fee up to and including your withdrawal date, even if you are SAAS funded.

A student who is in receipt of Benefits (satisfies the residency requirements) and is enrolled on either a Part-Time Further Education (non-advanced) course or a Part-Time Higher Education (advanced) course should complete a College Fee Waiver to cover the cost of the course.
At online enrolment, you will be asked: ‘How are you paying your tuition fees’, please select Fee Waiver.
For Audit Purposes, all students must provide the College with official documentary evidence as appropriate, from the Department of Work and Pensions; Job Centre Plus; Inland Revenue; Local Authority, MoD or Home Office. You must upload this documentary evidence when completing your online enrolment. The information will be checked by the Finance department.

A student who has enrolled on a Part-Time Higher Education (advanced) course can apply for a SAAS Part-time Fee Grant to cover part of your course fees. If you earn less than £25,000 per year, please make an application via https://www.saas.gov.uk/part-time

The College Policy for Refunds and Withdrawals represents a fair way of treating students and simultaneously protects the College from financial loss. It is not the policy of the College to refund fees automatically and refunds may only be considered under limited circumstances.

If, for any reason, you are not funded by SAAS then the College will ask you to pay tuition fees of £1,285 per year. Please let the Finance team know at your enrolment if you think that you might have to self-fund. Payments by instalments can be arranged with the Finance team. If you’re thinking about withdrawing from your course please be sure to contact the Finance office to see whether a pro-rated amount might be due to the College. Skills Development Scotland (SDS) Individual Training Accounts (ITAs) are for people who are 16 or over, living in Scotland and either in low paid work or actively seeking work. You must have an income of £22,000 a year or less, or be on certain benefits to be eligible to get up to £200 towards the costs of learning or training.
You can apply for an ITA if you are not undertaking any secondary, further or higher education, SDS funded training or participating on the Community Jobs Scotland programme.
ITAs are available if you are interested in learning something new or developing an existing skill to support you in work. There is a wide range of courses to choose from and you can study with any ITA approved learning provider, including learning centres, local colleges, universities and private training providers.

Higher Education (HNC-level or above)
EU students who are studying a course of Higher Education in Scotland have been granted free tuition for the duration of their course. This means that eligible EU students will have access to free tuition, including tuition fee support from the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS).
SAAS will assess applications against existing eligibility criteria, and will provide funding in the normal way. If you are a prospective student from the EU, you should click here to find out what funding is available to you.
Further Education (below HNC-level)
Full-time students who are enrolled on a full-time, non-advanced course will not be required to contribute towards the cost of tuition fees provided they have been resident in the UK or another EU country for the last three years and are ordinarily resident in Scotland on the 1st August on the year the course begins. Applications should be made online through the Student Funding Department (you will be emailed a hyperlink when you accept your place at College and this will let you make a Funding Application). Any student who fails to meet the criteria will be required to pay the cost of their tuition fee and should contact the college Finance Office to arrange this.
As an FE student from an EU country, you will not be able to access Maintenance (cost-of-living) or Travel expense funds until you have been resident in Scotland for 3 years. The Student Funding team will be able to talk you through residency issues as they can be complicated.
