An exciting and new course which is not only based around the City and Guilds Diploma in Construction Crafts but with the added opportunity to build real time, permanent structures within the college environment / workshop areas.
Not only will students gain the City and Guilds Diploma qualification, but they will undertake real time work in two trade areas that would lead to skills in internal fit out and renovation of properties, both domestic and industrial/retail.
Students will learn about working to deadlines, measuring/costing and gain and understanding of "reliability" and "dependability" as they will not only be working for themselves but each other throughout the year.
There are no specific entry requirements for this course but due to its nature and the work that will be experienced, prospective students will need to display a genuine desire to engage with the course and commit to the workloads that will be expected of them.
Previous and relevant qualifications will be considered but are not essential as relevant experiences will be considered in equal measure.
The course is open and suitable to all ages, from school leaver to mature student. All candidates must be 16 by the end of September 2020.
The trade areas encountered below include some of the likely tasks and experiences that will be encountered.
Carpentry and Joinery
Painting and Decorating
Students who successfully complete this course can expect to progress onto a further level of study at the college in their chosen area, or indeed utilise the skills, personal development and confidence that they have gained through the year, to gain and successfully progress directly into employment.
This course would be a suitable starting point for prospective students who were thinking of property renovation.
