Overview
Want to work towards developing your own Creative Practice with the potential of direct entry to year 3 of a degree programme within New College Lanarkshire? Yes? Then read on!
Our HND offers you the opportunity to develop individual practice in relation to your own interests. Creative experimentation, concept development and individualism will be wholly encouraged through a range of diverse projects.
Your own personal process and skills will be enhanced with a combination of lectures, tutorials, study visits, guest lectures, group critiques and studio practice. The development of your skills in a range of art and design subjects and expansion of your awareness and comprehension of conceptual and critical thinking will be the key to your success.
Entry
Successful completion of:
HNC Art & Design or equivalent creative HNC qualification
Please note: you will also be required to attend an interview and provide a portfolio demonstrating your creative skills.
Learn
Throughout your year of study you will complete a series of projects with contemporary and relevant themes to challenge your creativity, imagination and critical thinking.
Each project will allow you to focus on your area of art and design, be that:
- Painting
- Sculpture
- Community Arts
- Contemporary Art Practice
- Print Making
- Constructed Textiles
- Graphic Design
- Illustration
- Photography
Independent learning, where you develop your own personal style and practice will be an essential element and central to your year of study, enriched by the provision of a flexible working space in our Cumbernauld Campus. Projects include working with live clients as well as college-based briefs, national competitions and small-scale exhibitions.

The year will conclude with a public exhibition curated and installed by you, where you will promote yourself and your work
