Overview

This course is designed to provide focused skills in Joinery at City and Guilds Level 2 with industry-recognised qualifications and certificates that will assist in the pursuit of a Construction Apprenticeship or another similar, lifelong meaningful career.

Entry

This is a highly sought-after course and is seen as a progression from the Construction – Joinery Level 1. Direct applications can also be made.

Direct applicants who are not a current student must be 18-years old by the end of September 2024 to commence this course and have at least one of the following.

National 5 qualification in:

  • Design & Manufacture
  • Graphic Communication
  • Practical Metalworking
  • Practical Woodworking

 OR

  • Level 1 City and Guilds (Pre-Apprentice suite) Construction.

 OR

  • 2 years proven industry or relevant employment history.

There is no age restriction for progressing Students from current City & Guilds or Foundation Apprenticeship groups because of the safety training already established. Current students are advised to consult their lecturer at the time of application to discuss.

Candidates specific course suitability will be decided through an interview process, which may include an aptitude assessment. Preference will be given to those who can display a genuine desire to work in the construction industry.

  • Bench Joinery including safe use and maintenance of wood working machinery, making stairs and solid wood doors
     

Qualifications, Certificates and Experiences

You will gain the City and Guilds Diploma Level 2 – Joinery      
 

Working patterns

The course is mostly practical based, taking place in workshop and project areas. Students will be expected to engage with and complete mandatory theory elements. Students may be expected to engage with blended learning off campus.
 

Work Placement

Engagement with employers through visits and work placements may be available for students who excel and show a genuine desire to enter the industry.
