Overview

The Pre-apprenticeship programme in Electronic Fire and Security Systems is an exciting new course which has been developed to support the needs of our dynamic and innovative industry. The course is designed for school-leavers or those who are interested in securing an apprenticeship in the Fire and Security Systems sector.

The course aims to give you the practical skills, knowledge and experience to secure an apprenticeship in a dynamic and innovative industry. As well as exciting practical College based projects you will have the opportunity to complete work placements with up to 65 different employers within the Fire and Security Systems sector.

Entry

There are no formal entry requirements for this programme however, candidates would be expected to have achieved National 4 in:

  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Other equivalent qualifications

You will be invited for a group and/or individual interview where we will identify candidate suitability for the course. You will also get the opportunity to find out more about the course and tell us why you are interested in this subject area.

Important note: To be eligible for this course applicants must be 16 by 31st October due to health and safety regulations.

 

 

 

 

Learn

This qualification provides the underpinning knowledge for those wishing to seek employment in the fire and security industry. The course covers the following content:

  • Intruder alarms systems
  • Fire detection systems
  • CCTV systems
  • Access control systems

The qualification covers electrical and electronic principles as well as working effectively and safely in the electro-technical environment. There are also aspects of carrying out basic occupational surveying of property to be able to design the above systems.
