Overview

UWS’s BA Creative Practice is a top-up degree delivered at New College Lanarkshire and provides entry to exciting career opportunities for the next generation of visual and creative artists. Whether through photography, illustration, graphic design, printmaking, contemporary art practice, ceramics or the production of Animation, you will build a professional portfolio that will develop your creativity, skills and employability across the contemporary creative and cultural industries.

The BA Creative Practice allows you to pursue your passion for creativity in your chosen specialism.

With a focus on multi-disciplinary learning, you’ll have access to art and design facilities, computer labs and exhibition spaces at the Cumbernauld and Kirkintilloch campuses.

Entry

HND: Art; Design; Computer Arts; Contemporary Art Practice; Film Craft; Animation; Photography; Visual Communication; Audio visual Technology; Digital Media;  Technical Theatre; Production Arts, or relevant discipline, PLUS Higher English (Grade B or above) or accepted alternative.

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): RPL refers to learning you have already gained before starting your programme at University. Recognition of your prior learning means that it can be counted in lieu of standard entry requirements for a programme, or, can allow you to be awarded credit within your programme

    “Appropriate learning, wherever acquired, provided that it has been subject to reliable and valid methods of assessment, is accepted for the purpose of gaining academic credit towards an award of the University.” 

  •  Applicants who have successfully completed a programme of certificated learning at a recognised UK awarding institution are considered for admission with credit, at an appropriate point on the programme of study for which entry is being sought.

  • Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL): APEL is defined as learning that has its source in experience, for example at work or in the community. The assessment of APEL is undertaken by the University.

You’ll develop transferable skills in content production, research methods and professional communication – meaning you can develop your portfolio.

You will work with industry specialists, such as designers, photographers, and visual artists.

Focus on practical approaches for creating visual arts content including graphics, illustration, animation, installation and time-based art, photography, ceramics, printmaking and drawing and painting.
