BSc Dental Nursing - Year 2

Overview

In Year 2, you’ll build on your existing knowledge and develop more advanced skills in dental nursing and patient care. You’ll study modules including academic skills for dental nurses, oral health promotion with technology, computer-aided design for the dental team, promoting inclusion in oral health, therapeutic interventions in healthcare, and anatomy and imaging in dental practice.

The course remains full-time, with around four days of study each week. This typically includes two days on campus and two days in a dental practice setting.

Your supervised clinical placement will continue to strengthen your practical experience, helping you apply your learning in a real working environment and prepare for more advanced practice.

Entry

To apply for the BSc Dental Nursing programme, you must have:

  • Successfully passed Year 1 of the BSc Dental Nursing programme
  • SVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing/HNC in Dental Nursing or Modern Apprenticeship SVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing

Please note:

  • Participation at an information session, skills assessment and interview forms part of the selection criteria.
  • Access on to this course will be subject to a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure Scotland check in the form of an Enhanced PVG.  
  • A financial payment of £50 will be made by each student as a contribution towards PVGs, uniform and health clearance checks (this can be made in instalments or a one-off payment)

Full time: 4 days-2 days per week campus attendance and 2 days per week in placement.

Supervised clinical placement will continue to develop practical experience in a dental practice setting.
