Overview

As a Foundation Apprentice, you’ll learn a skill and get work experience – while you’re at school!

The Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering Systems aims to give students the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge to enter into a career in engineering and the advanced manufacturing sector and other engineering related industries. The programme is designed to provide participants with theory, practice related work experience. 

The engineering industry in Scotland employ over 144,000 people and it is estimated that 55% of the workforce in Scotland are employed in direct technical roles such as engineers, scientists and technologists.

Please note that this course is only open for applications to current school pupils.

Entry

Entry requirements for this course include:

  • Students must have gained National 5 Maths, English and another relevant subject (A-C) by end of S4.
  • Students must be studying a minimum of one or more Highers in S5.
  • It is desirable that the students achieve a Higher in a relevant subject area by the end of 6 - Maths, Physics or Chemistry. 
  • Students must have an interest in developing greater awareness of the industry and a strong desire to work in the sector.
