Launch your career in healthcare with this intensive six-week programme designed to prepare you for a rewarding role as a Clinical Support Worker with NHS Lanarkshire.
Through a blend of hands-on learning and expert guidance from both New College Lanarkshire lecturers and NHS professionals, you’ll develop the core employability and clinical skills needed to thrive in a healthcare environment.
Please note: This course will begin 5th January 2026 and 16th February 2026
Entry
- No formal entry requirements, though some experience of care is advantageous
- Applicants must be 18+ years
- Reside in North Lanarkshire
- Be unemployed and experiencing barriers to employment
- Attend an information session and interview as part of the selection process

Learn
The course is delivered full-time over six weeks (Monday to Friday) and includes a mix of college-based learning and work placement experience.
Weeks 1–2: Building Foundations
- Confidence building
- Personal resilience
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Organisational and problem-solving skills
- IOSH Working Safely (industry qualification)
- Values and Principles in Care (SQA qualification)
Weeks 3–4: Developing Clinical Skills
- Moving and handling techniques
- Infection control
- Tissue viability
- Basic life support
- Clinical practice and induction standards
Weeks 5–6: Work Placement Experience
Gain hands-on experience during a two-week placement on NHS wards in a local hospital. You’ll work alongside experienced staff, receive mentoring, and have the opportunity to demonstrate your newly developed clinical and hygiene skills in a real healthcare environment.
